LAWIN has been recognised as The Law Firm of the Year 2011 for the Baltic States by the world’s leading publication in the field of international finance - International Financial Law Review (IFLR). This award has been given to LAWIN for its participation in the Baltic region’s most innovative cross-border projects in the area of corporate finance during 2010

On March 23, in London, International Financial Law Review (IFLR) presented this year’s European Awards, celebrating the most innovative legal deals in the area of the corporate finance of 2010 and the firms that completed them. In the National team award category, The Law Firm of the Year 2011 award for The Baltic States has been granted to LAWIN, recognising its preeminent position in the legal market of the Baltic States and its unparalleled experience in legal innovation.

Previously, LAWIN was proud to be the very first recipient of the IFLR award for the Baltics when IFLR introduced the award in 2008.

IFLR Awards are unique in the international legal press as they reward legal innovation in cross border corporate finance transactions.

Rolandas Valiūnas, Chairman of the LAWIN Management Board commented on this award:
„We highly appreciate winning the IFLR award. The recognition of the world’s preeminent legal publication confirms our reputation in the eyes of our clients and provides further assurance of our legal excellence. It shows that we are on the right track and gives us further motivation to strive for our goals in order to  remain in a leading position in our market.”

Year 2010 was extremely successful for LAWIN with its Banking & Finance and Corporate and M&A practice groups participating in almost all of the major projects in the Baltics requiring financial innovation or characterised by a  high level of complexity. The most significant of these projects include:

  • Advising Premia Foods AS in relation to the IPO on the main list of OMX NASDAQ Tallinn Stock Exchange and in relation to the acquisition of OOO Khladokombinat No 1 in Russia.
  • Continuing legal assistance to European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with regard to its participation in the rescue of the Latvian bank Parex Bank, and in restructuring its investment in Parex Bank (Latvia) as a result of the restructuring of Parex bank into a “good” and “bad” bank;
  • Advising The Republic of Lithuania on the Rule 144A/Regulation S issue of USD 1,500,000,000 6.75 percent Notes of the Republic of Lithuania due 2015. It was Lithuania’s largest-ever debt issuance and the first one issued under US dollars and placed in US regulated market since 1997.

LAWIN has a long history of innovation in complex financial cross border matters, stretching back to the individual firms' foundations in the early '90s. Practical legal experience and know-how accumulated over almost 20 years of serving major local and international businesses and governments in the Baltics are the main reasons why clients have been turning to LAWIN for legal assistance, in particular for transactions of the highest complexity and importance.
