Aircraft, Shipping & Other Asset Finance
Since regaining independence, the Baltic States have undergone a root and branch process of renewal, including with respect to their infrastructure and capital goods base. As advisers to the leading international lenders and financial institutions operating in the region, as well as to some of the most important local industrial and commercial clients, the LAWIN team has advised on many of the most important shipping, aircraft and asset finance transactions in the Baltics in recent years.
Our aircraft finance team has acted with respect to the purchase of aircraft by operators, as well as leasing of aircraft, including assistance with the attendant financing, registration and security packages.
Similarly, the shipping finance team has worked on some of the largest secured financing transactions in the Baltics on both purchases and leases of commercial ships. We also represent clients with respect to bareboat registration in the Baltics, as opposed to one of the more “traditional” shipping jurisdictions.
With respect to asset finance, we regularly represent borrowers, as well as lenders, helping clients put into place funding for projects as diverse as commercial real estate development, industrial plant acquisition, transport and infrastructure projects, etc. Where applicable, we assist clients in their dealings with state and municipal authorities, either in obtaining guarantees and other assistance, or obtaining necessary approvals and authorisations in relation to the project.
